MAD is a division of GWRRA to help cyclists
make themselves more visible and to teach other vehicle drivers to be more aware
of bikes.
Because (3/4) 75 out of 100 of motorcycle
accidents involve a collision with another vehicle, usually a passenger
automobile. Of these 75 accidents, (2/3) 50 are caused by the vehicle
violating the motorcycle’s right of way.
Drivers of the automobile are unfamiliar with motorcycles.
You hear I didn’t see them… Drivers
need to be made aware of motorcycle’s presence.
There are 3 objectives for MAD:
1. To reduce deaths, disabilities and loss of property resulting
from accidents in which a motorcycle’s right of way has been violated by
another motorist.
2. To increase motorcyclist’s awareness of the attitudes and
lack of awareness that the majority of motorists have regarding motorcycles.
3. To
increase motorist’s awareness of motorcycles through actively and aggressively
conducting events, campaigns and presentations to audiences that are
predominately non-motorcycling.
Coordinator:
Motorist Awareness Coordinators are MAD program managers for their
Directors at each GWRRA level. They
are appointed by Regional, District and Chapter Directors and serve on the
support staff of these directors. Coordinators
are not GWRRA officers.
